The City and Planet of Mort

The capital planet and city (Mort City) of The World of progress, Mort's name is more than a little ironic.

The landscape speaks of industrial blight and the inequality of the classes. Walled corporate areas are only miles away from the filth of Downtown, where the development has just built on top of the previous structures, creating a chaos of decay. People live miserable little lives, poor and lonely.

That is, of course, unless they become operatives. The they can live in the cleanest flats, eat the best food, and not have to worry about being overrun by Carriens, or a flash flood washing them away. Just sell yourself to Mr. Slayer and you have it made... until you have to go back into Downtown to try to clean things up. Hey, it's a job. At least you have one.

Do well enough, get enough media attention, and maybe you'll even draw a sponsor or two, and make some real money. Maybe get a financier so you don't have to do so many sewer runs anymore. Or you could get killed the first time you enter the Cannibal Sectors.

Either way, being an operative is the best way to see Mort. You might not like what you see, though.
